Although most of our Lone Star Team are Texans, each team usually has one “honorary Texan” for the tour to help us promote donation. This tour, it is Rodney Ford, from Brandon, Florida.
“During the past 25 years, I have come to understand the need for living donor donation and developed a strong passion to promote life-saving donation awareness and education. To demonstrate my commitment to this work, I have: 1) completed several cycling tours to promote donation awareness, 2) been an active board member of the LifeSouth Community Foundation in Gainesville, FL, and 3) actively participated and spoken during outreach activities with LifeLink, which is my local Organ Provider Organization.
I’ve also committed myself to life-saving donation by being a multi-gallon blood and platelet donor and I am registered on the National Bone Marrow registry.
In addition, I am a 12-year living kidney donor, donating to my wife in 2010. I am grateful to say we continue to live active and full lives and we often get the opportunity to share our donation experience during local TV and podcast interviews.
